One could get a pretty broad education (history, science, art, culture) from reading the entire archives of National Geo. If we wind up homeschooling our children someday, maybe Geos can be like a textbook.
Last night i read about the Wodaabe nomads of Niger in a 1983 geo. "Wodaabe taboo prohibits a mother from speaking to her first- or second- born child and .... strictly limits physical contact with them."
Tradition and ritual are so fascinating. I wonder how a custom that seems that unnatural could have begun?
